Welcome to MYSA. We want to empower young people through sport to help them to fulfil their potential and achieve their dreams.

We are based in Mathare, just outside Nairobi. Mathare is a group of some of the largest, and poorest, slums in Africa. More than 900,000 people call these slums their home, living in mud huts with no clean water, electricity or sanitation. When you grow up in a place like this, it can be hard to be optimistic about your future. MYSA offers the young people of Mathare hope, and the opportunity for a better life.

Using Sport

playing_footballWe use sport, which we combine with community outreach and development activities, to give young people like us the skills and confidence they need to aim higher, achieve more and improve their lives. MYSA is run by and for the young people who take part in its activities, and gives all of us the opportunity to dream of a brighter future.

What brings us together at MYSA is a love of sport, particularly football. We all compete in a football league, as well as learning new skills and lessons to help us with life off the football pitch.

But MYSA is about more than football. It’s not just goals on the pitch that count. We get points from taking part in other activities off the pitch, like collecting litter in the areas where we live, or participating in HIV/AIDS awareness sessions. This earns extra points which could be the difference between a team winning the league, or being relegated.
