Environmental Clean Ups
Under this project, young people and their teams are encouraged to voluntarily clean their community. They remove solid waste weekly and unclog open sewers to reduce disease. The teams that complete cleanup activities are awarded 6 points in the league standings and individual players get 2 points in every completed cleanup to increasing their chances of winning a leadership award.
The youth of Mathare have been involved in the cleaning up of their environment and opening of blocked drainage systems with little or sometimes no proper tools at all. All the teams participating in MYSA leagues have to do at least two community service programmes scheduled on their fixtures. An award of 6 points for each cleanup campaign done by any team ensures that each team does the work to enable them qualifies for the playoffs. This also teaches the youth to be responsible for their environment and be winners on and off the pitch
MYSA had purchased of 2 trucks and 2 tractors to assist clean up. These were later sold when it became expensive to run them due to old age. MYSA is considering acquiring skills and the necessary equipment which can be used to start a garbage recycling plant. This can be one of the biggest income generating activities for MYSA.
